Who we are
The Children's Heart Society is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization supporting children born with congenital or acquired heart disease and their families. We provide emotional, social, and financial support through family events, peer connections, hospital visits, and advocacy efforts.
What we do
We create opportunities for families to connect, learn, and heal together- from camp weekends and holiday parties to hospital comfort programs and financial assistance initiatives. Every event and outreach program is designed to remind families that they are not alone in this journey.
Why we do it
Many of our volunteers are heart parents, siblings, or survivors themselves. We understand the challenges families face, and we believe that a strong community can make a difficult journey just a little bit easier. Our goal is to strengthen and uplift heart families across Alberta.
Opportunities & Requirements
- Assist at family events ( registration, setup, meal service, cleanup)
- Help plan or coordinate special programs and fundraisers, such as coffee time or our fundraising run
- Fundraising and sponsorship outreach
Join our hospital outreach team ( eg, assembling comfort bags or delivering donations)
Offer professional skills ( photography, translation services, videography, counselling services)
- A kind, compassionate attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team
- Completion of a short volunteer application and confidentiality agreement
- A vulnerable sector check
- Availability to assist at least once per year.
- Individuals 16 years and older
- Families and community groups
- Students seeking volunteer hours
- Corporate or service groups looking to give back
- Event support: 3-5 hours per event
- Committee roles: 1-2 hours per event
- Ongoing volunteer roles, such as coffee time: flexible scheduling
